Knorr-Bremse Production System (KPS)

An important part of KPS is our Zero Defect goal. This involves improving all relevant processes in such a way that defects are detected and corrected as soon as they emerge.

The Zero Defect concept is further promoted in the area of production through the use of proven methods of the Knorr-Bremse Production System (KPS). For example, a detailed Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is conducted for preventive quality assurance. Identified risks are then eliminated or at the very least minimized, preferably through process redesign or Poka-Yoke solutions. This Japanese phrase (meaning “mistake proofing” in English) is used to describe a principle composed of several different elements in which technical precautions or fixtures are implemented to provide immediate protection against and/or prevent errors in complex processes. If this is not an option, products must be verified as error-free through 100% testing prior to arriving at the customer. KPS ensures that detected defects are analyzed as quickly as possible by interdisciplinary teams in order to determine the cause. This cause is then eliminated to rule out repetition of the defect.
