Knorr-Bremse opens new Rail Vehicle Systems plant in the USA
At a ceremony held on May 9 in Westminster, Maryland, USA, Knorr-Bremse opened a new Rail Vehicle Systems production plant. The grand opening was attended by prominent guests including the Governor of Maryland, Martin O’Malley, and the owner and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Knorr-Bremse, Heinz Hermann Thiele, as well as by many customers. As a result of the ongoing growth of the US mass transit market and of three current major orders for HVAC systems, the former plant in Westminster had reached the limits of its capacity.

Knorr-Bremse to equip diesel trains in the UK with LEADER Driver Advisory System
Knorr-Bremse has been awarded two important contracts by the Go-Ahead Group in the UK: the company is to fit the LEADER Driver Advisory System to the diesel train fleets at London Midland and Southern. The aim is for LEADER to help cut fuel consumption and carbon emissions, making a valuable contribution to realising the Go-Ahead Group’s environmental goals.

Knorr-Bremse opens modern facility for rail vehicle and commercial vehicle systems in Brazil
On April 17, the opening ceremony for Knorr-Bremse’s new, state-of-the-art plant in Itupeva, Brazil was held in the presence of large numbers of important customers and business partners. Housed in new buildings covering an area of more than 32,000 square meters, the development, production and sales facility has increased its capacity by around 30%. It replaces the former plant in São Paulo, some 80 kilometers away, which had reached the limits of its capacity as a result of high growth rates in recent years.

Dr. Michael Buscher appointed Chairman of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG
The Supervisory Board of Knorr-Bremse AG yesterday appointed Dr. Michael Buscher, 47, to the position of Chairman of the Executive Board with effect from July 1. Dr. Buscher has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Knorr-Bremse since March 2012, a position from which he is to step down on June 30, 2013.

Knorr-Bremse and Federal Cargo Company FGK create new joint venture in Russia
Federal Cargo Company FGK, a subsidiary of Russian Railways RZD, and Knorr-Bremse have established a joint venture in Russia by the name of Knorr-Bremse 1520. The new joint venture company is to manufacture rail vehicle brake technology products for use in Russia and other CIS states. The agreement between Knorr-Bremse and FGK was signed at a ceremony on the premises of the Russian company in Moscow.

Outstanding value stream management – Knorr-Bremse wins “Factory of the Year” contest
Cutting throughput times from 25 working days to just five in the space of three years is a breathtaking achievement for a factory that manufactures non-standard products for the rail vehicle market. In recognition of the pioneering concepts behind this success story, Knorr-Bremse was recently named “Factory of the Year” in the category “Outstanding Value Stream”. The annual “Factory of the Year” competition is the toughest and best-established industry benchmark in the German-speaking world and Eastern Europe. The competition is organized by trade journal Produktion in conjunction with management consultants A.T. Kearney.

Knorr-Bremse secures new order for Japanese high-speed sector
The Knorr-Bremse Group has been selected by Japanese rail operator JR East to supply brake equipment for the state-of-the-art Shinkansen E7 high-speed train that will operate on the route between Tokyo and Kanazawa.
